Talon Barbet has been a passenger in his life since his sister died and his mother left him with an absentee father. But he is determined that his first year at Vikberg College, an ultra-elite university for vampires, will make up for years of loneliness and obscurity. Unfortunately, it means he must forget about Lennox; a human he’s secretly loved and his best friend.

In an effort to keep her in his life, Talon visits a community of humans living a “vampire lifestyle” after overhearing they can disguise their human scent. Armed with the knowledge, Talon smuggles Lennox into Vikberg by having her assume the identity of his dead sister. With Lennox by his side, Talon aims to make a name for himself and break from the chains of his Lowborn status.

While Lennox blends in with ease and makes new friends, Talon struggles to find belonging. After he is humiliated at a Society initiation the same solitude he felt outside of Vikberg alienates him, and Talon is forced to take extreme measures to build his status and credibility.

But it can all come crashing down, especially if Vikberg discovers Talon is responsible for aiding and abetting Lennox - a bloodshark.
